Welcoming the Light, Carlisle
A torchlit parade in Carlisle to celebrate the coast to coast illumination of Hadrian's Wall.

Sufi Meets Zen, Furness Abbey,

A
unique evening full of the flavours of Asia, including a twilight
performance from acclaimed South Asian Dance Company, Akademi. Tickets

Alive, Whitehaven Harbour
An exciting new
outdoor festival around the Harbour. A Saturday evening opening by
Sarruga (Spain) with their spectacular procession of giant fish will
lead into a daytime street arts festival on Sunday and a repeat of the
Saturday night Sarruga show on Sunday evening. FREE

Built This City, Carlisle City Centre
A public
construction extravaganza - using thousands of large cardboard boxes and
the imaginations and ingenuity of kids and families, Polyglot Theatre
(Australia) will help build a magnificent city of dreams in one day in

commission of 2009 returns. The chaotic Dr Caligari arrives and gets the
audience to help create a unique auditorium. Oddities and acrobats are
conjured out of thin air to entertain, but once out of the box they
refuse to disappear! An afternoon of cabaret with music, dancing, comedy

set to be animated like never before as Lakes Alive returns with a bold

extravaganza of sound, light and fireworks signals the final week of
